Each one of us love some OS or the other. There are so many Operating systems out there like Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, Unix, Free BSD, Solaris,..etc. Each operating system is the best at what it is intended to do. Windows is the king of commercial software and if you need to run commercial software (ie Games, MS Office, Tax programs, etc) then you should run Windows. Mac OS X is good for multimedia design and editing and it is no surprise that most movie, music, and fashion shops tend to have Macs. Linux is a great developing machine, but each distro (distribution) of Linux has a niche market it also caters to. Read, Top 5 Advantages Of Using Linux Os 🙂
Linux is also the best platform to run FLOSS (Free Libre Open Source Software) on as most FLOSS projects were originally developed on Linux first. Solaris is the best server if up time is vital (these machines don’t quit even with a kernel panic (the Unix version of a BSOD)).

One of my hobbies is to collect different operating systems and softwares and finding out what’s new in that. Currently I run Windows 7, Windows Xp, 2 different flavors of Linux(One installed along with Windows and another mounted in Virtual Box), and Mac OS X. You also try LiveCDs, it allows you to use the operating system right from the CD (no need to install anything). This will tell you exactly how the OS will run on your computer.
