Terminator – Run Multiple GNOME terminals in one window

Linux lovers mostly love to spend time in Terminal. There is a freeware called Terminator. With Terminator one can run multiple Gnome terminals in one window.It is inspired by programs such as gnome-multi-term, quadkonsole, etc. in that the main focus is arranging terminals in grids (tabs is the most common default method, which Terminator also supports).

Terminator comes with lots of features which makes the users work easy and more lively. 🙂 GNOME Terminator project is an attempt to maximise useful space on a given desktop for terminals. Checkout the features and keyboard shortcuts.

How to Install “Terminator”?

1. Just open your linux terminal and type the following,
sudo apt-get install terminal

2. After installation open Terminator and enjoy working in it. 🙂

List of Shortcut Keys for Terminator:

1. Press Shif+Ctrl+O to split the terminal by horizontal.
2. Press Shift+Ctrl+E to split the focused terminal by vertical.
3. Press Alt+UP to focus on above terminal.
4. Press Shift+Ctrl+E to split the focused terminal by vertical.
5. Focus the terminal below Alt+Down
6. Focus the terminal left Alt+Left
7. Focus the terminal above Alt+Up
8. Focus the terminal right Alt+Right
9. Please, Shift+Ctrl+T two times to create 2 new terminals.
10. Switch to the previous TAB Ctrl+PageUP
11. Switch to the next TAB Ctrl+PageDOWN
12. Press Shift+Ctrl+I to create new window.
13. Close window Shift+Ctrl+Q
14. Press Shift+Ctrl+Q to close the focused window.
15. Close terminal Shift+Ctrl+W
16. Increase font size Ctrl++
17. Decrease font size Ctrl+-
18. Press Ctrl++ (Ctrl button with + button) few times to increase the font size and press Ctrl+- (Ctrl button with – button) to decrease the font size.
19. Press Ctrl+0 (Ctrl button with zero button) to restore the font to original/normal font size.
20. Resize the terminal DOWN Shift+Ctrl+DOWN
21. Resize the terminal LEFT Shift+Ctrl+LEFT
22. Resize the terminal RIGHT Shift+Ctrl+RIGHT
23. Resize the terminal UP Shift+Ctrl+UP
24. You re-size you focused terminal to DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT and UP. Just press and hold the Shift+Ctrl button and followed by DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT and UP arrow button to resize the terminal.
25. Press F11 to resize the terminal into full screen.
